diplo x switch + dancehall + dubstep + surf rock + krunk + hottest etc = major lazer. 프로덕션 & 투어 파트너로 함께 활동하고 있는 diplo와 siwtch의 자마이카 뮤직에 바치는 헌사, 혹은 댄스 뮤직 신의 트렌드를 뒤흔들 가장 진보적인 댄스 뮤직, 아니면 댄스 플로어에서 당신의 스텝을 뒤엉키게 만들 자마이카 용병의 정체불명 프로젝트. 함께 투어를 돌며 동거중인 연인처럼 알게 모르게 프로젝트를 알리다 얼마전 laptop dj를 위해 instrumental과 accapella가 포함된 ‘hold the line’이란 곡의 mp3를 mad decent blog에 공개했다.  dancehall riddim 위에 surf-rock 리프와 santigold(ex-santogold. 최근 ‘real’ santo gold에게 이름을 뺏겼다.)와 mr.lexx의 랩이 얹어진 이 곡의 장르 태그는 ‘raggamuffingangsterkrunkdubstepsurfrock’이며 diplo는 mad decent blog에서 자신들의 곡을 ‘like a surf rock ragga thingamajig, zeen!’이라 표현했다. 그들의 표현이 난해하다고? 글쎄. 곡을 들어보면 이들의 표현이 당신과 나의 레퍼런스가 빈곤한 상상력에 얼마나 큰 위안이 되는지 알 수 있을껄. 6월 16일 m.i.a., santigold, vybz cartel, ward 21, busy signal 등이 참여한 풀렝쓰 앨범 ‘gunz don’t kill peoples, lazers do’가 downtown records와 mad decent에서 합작으로 발매될 예정이며, 그들의 myspace에서 앨범에 수록될 곡의 프리뷰 믹스를 들어볼 수 있다. 지구 온난화와 관계 없이 올해 6월은 그 어느 여름보다 뜨거울 것 같다.

The US military rescued him and repurposed  experimental lazers as prosthetic limbs. Since then Major Lazer has been a hired renegade soldier for a rogue government operating in secrecy underneath the watch of M5 and the CIA. His cover is that of a dancehall night club owner from Trinidad and he enlisted the help of long-time allies and uber-producers, Diplo and Switch, to produce his first LP. His true mission is to protect the world from the dark forces of evil that live just under the surface of a civilized society. He fights vampires and various monsters, parties hard, and has a rocket powered skateboard. As part of a plan to subdue the forces of evil with a batch of futuristic dancehall bangers, the three encamped at Tuff Gong Studios in Jamaica to record the Major Lazer record. The product of this collaboration is Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do, a collection of tracks that draws from the rich dancehall tradition of Jamaica, the futuristic dance-floor-killing aesthetic of Diplo and Switch, and contributions from some of the biggest names in dancehall today.
